Many CAD packages provide a method for generating gear geometry. Most of these are limited in the allowed specification. Often only allowing to specify a subset of basic macro geometry. This is sufficient for space claim and rendering models.
Sometimes a more accurate gear geometry model is required. For example for FEA stress simulations or other performance simulations. GearCutter allows for a detailed specification of the rack cutting tool and therefore final gear geometry.
The user is able to interactively visualise the gear generation process in the transverse plane. ThisĀ helps to build intuition and understanding of the manufacturing process. The user can generate and visualise a 3D CAD model of the gear geometry. This helps to see the effect of helix angle and other macro parameters.
Generated models are exported in the standard CAD STEP-File format (ISO 10303-21). This allows for easy integration with your CAD package.
